Apparatus for stacking packages comprises a transverse pusher 10 and a supporting plate 4 which is offset at least the height of one package from the level of a feed-in conveyer 1, the plate 4 supporting lateral walls 5, 6 and at least one partition 7. The pusher 10 feeds succeeding packages across the package already delivered to the first compartment on the plate 4, and thereby completes a load on the plate before a pusher 11 clears the packages on to an extension 12. In a modification, the plate 4 may be offset the height of two packages below the level of the conveyer 1. Fig. 12 shows a stage in loading a plate of this depth. The plate 4, the partitions, and the outer wall of the plate may be adjustable. |
