摘要 PURPOSE:To prevent formation of voids in transferred images, even on a recording material with a low surface smoothness, and ensure favorable sharpness of edge parts of printed images by specifying both the elongation at rupture of an adhesive layer opposed to a recording material and the elongation at rupture of a layer adjacent to the adhesive layer. CONSTITUTION:A thermal transfer material comprises a release later as a first ink layer 22 for promoting release from a base 21, an intermediate layer as a second ink layer 23 having an elongation at rupture at 60 deg.C of not more than 10%, and an adhesive layer as a third ink layer 24 having an elongation at rupture at 80 deg.C of at least 50%, the layers provided in that order from the base side. When the elongation at rupture at 80 deg.C of the adhesive layer 24 is at least 50%, images free of voids are printed even on a recording paper with a low surface smoothness, through formation of ink bridges between projected parts of the paper surface, but if the elongation at rupture is less than 50%, the bridge formation will be unsatisfactory, and voids will be formed in the printed images. When the elongation at rupture at 60 deg.C of the intermediate layer 23 adjacent to the adhesive layer 24 is not more than 10%, sharpness of edge parts of the printed images is favorable, but if the elongation at rupture exceeds 10%, elongated ink pieces will be adhered to the edge parts of the printed images, resulting in poor sharpness.
