<p>This invention relates to an improved continuous process for producing 1,4-dioxane. Ethylene glycol, polyethylene glycol or a mixture thereof is dehydrated in a single phase liquid reaction medium containing an acid dehydration catalyst at a sub-atmospheric pressure and an elevated temperature to produce 1,4-dioxane. Surprisingly, the process substantially reduces foaming and formation of tars and increases productivity.</p> |
