The method of recovering heat from kitchen or similary equipment particularly a shower bath uses a vessel (W) such as the foot bath of the shower to collect used water so that heat can be extracted for preheating the cold water supplied to the water heater (H). The outlet pipe (A) from the vessel travels horizontally through a chamber (B) through which passes cold water entering from the supply pipe (K). The discharged warm water travels in counterflow to the incoming cold water. USE/ADVANTAGE - Less heat is required due to heat recovery from kitchen sanitary equipment.
