Until now, the automatic accompanying device has been driven via a pedal (manual) keyboard by means of pressing a key corresponding to the bass string or accompanying string played. Obtaining the current information presupposes the elimination of the following disturbing variables. A played string continues to sound. When releasing a string, the finger collides with the neighbouring strings. The fingers of the player simultaneously touch a plurality of strings. The vibration of a string is recorded by infrared movement detectors. Static changes are suppressed by a filter. If a string is released, the signal reaches an evaluating TTL logic circuit via an amplifier stage. An output stage drives the automatic accompanying device via electrically insulated path. Use by solo zither players (about 500 alone in the Federal Republic of Germany). <IMAGE>
