Detection of bound label - using complex of specific-binding component and luminescence-inducing component

Detection of labels with a molecular wt. below 10,000 bound (directly or indirectly) to a support is effected by (a) contacting the label with excess of a detector complex comprising a binding substance (I) with high specific affinity for the label and a substance (II) capable of inducing light emission in a bio- or chemiluminescent system; (b) separating the unbound excess detector complex from the resulting label-bound detector complex; and (c) contacting the label-bound detector complex, or at least its component (II), with a bio- or chemiluminescent system and measuring the light emitted. Also claimed are detector complexes of the above type.
