PURPOSE:To produce an excellent electroviscous effect even in a high temperature environment with a small temperature dependence by using the hydrotalcite of a specified structure as the dispersed phase of an electroviscous fluid. CONSTITUTION:As the dispersed phase for an electroviscous fluid, the hydrotalcite expressed by the formula [Mg1-xAlx(OH)2]<x+>[(CO3<2->)<x/2>.mH2O]<x-> (with proviso that x is 0.3<=x<=0.33 and m is 0<m<=0.5) is used. The electroviscous fluid contains a nonconductive, hydrophobic fluid such as silicone oil as the liquid phase and the modified silicone oil as the dispersing agent. Since the hydrotalcite is of two layer structure with water contained therebetween and sandwiched between positively charged basic layers, it is stabilized to such extent as not to lose the water until the temperature rises to about 180 deg.C. Therefore, this electroviscous fluid, in a high temperature environment, exerts an electroviscous effect almost unchanged from at ordinary temperature, small in temperature dependence. |
