A heart valve comprises a valve member (60) removably engaged with a sewing ring (20). The sewing ring defines a cylindrical inner surface and the valve member has a cylindrical outer surface corresponding to the cylindrical inner surface of the sewing ring, the inner surface of the sewing ring being spaced from the outer surface of the valve member, the inner and outer surfaces of the sewing ring and the valve member, respectively, being free of inwardly and outwardly directed protrusions, respectively. The valve member is attached to the sewing ring by means of sutures (82,84,86), whereby the valve member may be removed from the sewing ring by passage of a blade circumferentially around the valve member in the space between the valve member and the sewing ring. |
