Process for the preparation of fatty acid phenyl esters

Phenyl esters of saturated or unsaturated, straight-chain or branched fatty acids having 8 to 22 carbon atoms can be prepared in high yields by reaction of the fatty acids with phenol in the presence of a catalyst combination consisting of alkanesulphonic acids and metallic tin.
