The invention relates to an apparatus for grinding edges on a flat, disc-shaped workpiece, the planar workpiece surfaces of which are themselves bearing surfaces of a gas or hydrostatic, plane bearing which, on the one hand, fixes the workpiece in its axial position but, on the other hand, permits pivoting which allows it to bring any point on the contour of this disc-shaped workpiece into engagement with a tool. In this arrangement, for the radial fixture of the workpiece a number of rollers are provided on the periphery of the workpiece which are situated with their circumferential surface in engagement with the contour of the workpiece. Expediently, for the purpose of a defined pivoting of the workpiece, the rollers provided for radial guidance of the workpiece are in engagement with a common driving disc which, for its part, sets all of the guide rollers in a like rotary motion.
