Method for transmitting data between two stations via optical waveguides

A method is indicated for inserting an additional channel into a main channel in the transmission of data between two stations via optical waveguides. For this purpose, bits of the additional optical channel with a lower bit rate compared with the main channel are inserted in any given position at defined intervals which are known in the transcoder of the receiving station into a main optical channel emanating from the transcoder of the transmitting station, in each case instead of a double bit, and are removed once more at the receiving end from the main optical channel. The bits of the additional channel which are inserted into the main channel are double bits which are identical to a forbidden bit combination which is produced when the electric AMI code is converted into the optical CMI code. At the receiving end, the double bits of the main channel which are replaced by the bits of the additional channel are retrieved in accordance with the rules of the electric code by means of a sequential logic.
