Process and apparatus for coating the surface of a three-dimensional moulding (7) with a plastic sheet (9), in which the sheet (9) is clamped in a shut-off space (10) opposite the moulding and, before closing can be heated up, the plastic sheet (9) separating two first and second shut-off spaces, separated by it from each other and the plastic sheet (9) being pressed, and at the same time changing the shape, against the contours (7b) of the moulding (7) by means of positive pressure in the first shut-off space (10a), while the moulding (7) is deaerated in the second shut-off space. The process and the apparatus are used for the production of a part of furniture, in particular front part of furniture for fitted and add-on furniture, such as a door panel for kitchen, living room and office furniture, having a moulding (7) of air-permeable wood-based material (MDF) or foam plastic. The moulding (7), already covered on its rear side with a closed plastic sheet (25), is deaerated on the uncovered surface (7a, 7b, 7c) by means of negative pressure in the second shut-off space (10b), and the positive pressure in the first shut-off space (10a) moulds and presses the plastic sheet (9) closely up against the contours (7a, 7b) of the deaerated moulding (7) up to the plastic sheet (25) on the rear side. <IMAGE>
