<p>This machine for grinding opthalmic glass, comprising a casing (1) open at its upper part and housing a grinding wheel (7) driven in rotation on a first horizontal spindle (6), a U-shaped carriage (13) articulated on a second horizontal spindle (11) situated above and behind the first spindle (6) and carrying between its flanges a spindle (14) in two parts which clamp between them a piece (15) to be cut, the carriage being capable of moving about the said second spindle and along the latter, comprises a cover (2), having a hinged upper panel (5) and mounted so as to oscillate in the casing (1) between an upper closed position and a lower open position, a motor (20) for driving the said cover, and first and second means (26, 27 and 24, 25) for raising the carriage and the said panel, respectively when the cover moves from its upper position to its lower position.
