<p>Means (18, 18') for lifting solid materials circulating in the drum are arranged between a zone (22) in which the flame of the burner (12) develops and a kneading zone (30). These lifting means (18, 18') form a dense curtain of materials, isolating the kneading zone (30) from the flame zone (22) by means of the solid materials being lifted and falling back during rotation of the drum (2). The device may comprise means (32, 34, 37) for introducing recycled materials into the zone (23) where the dense curtain is formed.
