Apparatus for washing filter cakes in tumbler centrifuges

Stationary wash nozzles are excluded for washing filter cakes in tumbler centrifuges, because the cake surface oscillates with respect to the wash nozzles. As a result, most of the washing liquid is reflected uselessly into the collecting housing. The object is to create a washing apparatus which avoids the reflection of the liquid and advantageously utilizes the kinematics of tumbler centrifuges for cake washing. In order to keep the distance between wash nozzle and cake surface constant, the wash nozzle (25) is mounted on the tumbler head (15) and fed via a co-rotating annular cup, so that the filter cake rotates past the wash nozzle with differential frequency between screen bowl (17) and tumbler head (15) and is uniformly impinged with preaccelerated wash liquid. In a preferred embodiment, the wash liquid impacts the cake region which is momentarily stationary relative to the screen surface (18). The apparatus is suitable for the uniform, splash-free and effective washing of filter cakes in tumbler centrifuges. <IMAGE>
