PURPOSE:To obtain a single mode laser equipment which oscillates by low threshold current and has a compact shape by constituting an active layer in the form of a polygon, arranging reflecting mirrors at each vertex of the polygon, and making a part of the reflecting mirror a diffraction grating. CONSTITUTION:An active layer 2 is constituted in the formed a polygonal ring, a reflecting mirror 6 is arranged at each vertex of the polygon periphery, and the peripheral part is buried with InP 1. Light generated in the active layer 2 is reflected by each reflecting mirror 6, and oscillates in a closed optical path in the form of an equilateral polygon. By making a part of the reflecting mirror 6 a stripe-type diffraction grating 5 wherein InP and InGaAsP are alternately combined, the light propagating in the active layer 2 are all selectively reflected by the grating 5, and oscillates in a single mode. The light entering the InGaAsP part of the diffraction grating 5 passes the diffraction grating 5, and is led out to the outside, as light output 4. |
