PURPOSE:To easily obtain the subject compound in high yield and purity, by nitrating 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)hexafluoropropane with nitric acid in a specific medium and adjusting the amount of water in the reaction system. CONSTITUTION:Crystal of the objective compound can be produced by nitrating 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)hexafluoropropane with nitric acid having a concentration of SPG 1,38-1.52 in a 2-5C lower fatty acid medium (e.g., acetic acid or propionic acid) while adding 0.01-1.5 times amount of water (based on the lower fatty acid), thereby proceeding the nitration reaction stepwise preferably at 30-70 deg.C. The amount of the hexafluoropropane compound is 0.8-2.0kg/l based on the lower fatty acid and that of the nitric acid is 2-3 equivalent based on the hexafluoropropane compound. The produced compound is useful as a production raw material for 2,2-bis(3-amino-4-hydroxyphenyl)hexafluoropropane used as a raw material for fluorine-containing crosslinking agent and various polymers or as an intermediate raw material for various fluorine compounds.
