TISSUE REMOVING MEANS USING LASER TECHNIQUE

PURPOSE: To remove cataract eye tissue by equipping a tissue removing device with a lead for fiber optical use so as to cooperate with an irrigating and sucking means in a handpiece. CONSTITUTION: A laser 10 comprises a handpiece 12 attached to a tubular fiber optic inserting means 14. The handpiece 12 is also attached to an irrigation source 18 and a suction pump 20, both of which provide lubrication and suction needed for the surround of the eye tissues to be removed. The body 22 of the handpiece includes a lead 24 for irrigating or infusing, a lead 26 for fiber optic use, and a lead 28 for suction. The lead 26 for fiber optic use is press fitted between the lead 24 for infusing and the lead 28 for suction in the center of the fiber optic inserting means 14. When an optical window 38 is mounted on the edge of the lead 26 for fiber optic use, the laser can come into contact with the region to be removed.
