<p>PURPOSE:To make operations simple and productivity high, to obviate damaging of rubbed surfaces and to improve yield by forming control films for horizontal orientation on both surfaces of an intermediate electrode substrate of a multilayered liquid crystal display and rubbing both surfaces simultaneously. CONSTITUTION:Transparent electrodes 32, 32 are formed on both surfaces of an intermediate substrate 22 of a multilayered liquid crystal display, whereafter insulation films 42, 43 are formed. In the stage of applying horizontal orientation on the films 42, 43, the edge parts of the substrate 22 are held with a stage 2, and a jig 6 is moved linearly at a specified speed in an arrow 6 direction to deliver the substrate 22 and to dispose rubbing rolls 71, 72 in parallel above and below the substrate. The rolls 71, 72 are rotated in arrow directions to apply mutually parallel rubbing on both surfaces by means of the flocks applied on the rolls 71, 72. The rolls 71, 72 are disposed mutually orthogonally to apply mutually orthogonal horizontal orientation. The stages are thus simplified by simultaneous rubbing of both surfaces, the changes for damaging of rubbed surfaces are eliminated and yields are improved.</p> |
