The invention relates to a soil cultivating machine in particular for the preparation of a seed bed. The cultivating machine comprises a frame (1) in which a plurality of soil cultivating members (3) are supported and a roller (16) is located behind the soil cultivating members (3) and supported by a carrier construction (20). The said carrier construction is movable in height relative to the frame (1) and an adjusting member (13) is disposed between the carrier construction and the upper side of a trestle (21) located on the frame (1). The adjusting member (23) is operable from the tractor. An indicator mechanism (40, 41) is provided, with the aid of which the adjusting position of the roller (16) can be checked from the tractor. The said indicator mechanism (40, 41) constitutes part of the adjusting member (23). The upper portion (28) of the adjusting member (23) is movable in height through a predetermined distance relative to the trestle (21), whereby a pin (24) on the trestle (21) is capable of movement in a slot (34) that extends in the longitudinal direction of the adjusting member (23).
