PURPOSE:To safely carry out the regeneration of a filter in a short time by providing a sub-valve in a passage for connecting the lower course side of a main valve to a filter and controlling the sub-valve in accordance with engine speed. CONSTITUTION:A main valve 8 for switching over a filter 3 and its bypass 9 is provided while providing a sub-valve 10 in a passage for connecting the lower course side of the main valve 8 to the filter 3. The table of sub-valve opening with respect to engine speed for making the mixing quantity of exhaust gas constant is previously kept by a control device 6. At the time of regenerating the filter, the opening of the sub-valve 10 is controlled in accordance with engine speed to make the mixing quantity of the exhaust gas constant. Thereby, the regeneration can be safely carried out in a short time.
