<p>PURPOSE:To prevent the number of switches where a light signal passes from increasing even when the number of planes type bistable elements of a matrix increases by forming plane type bistable elements so that the gate areas of the respective elements are connected in the longitudinal direction of the surface of a substrate and separated laterally. CONSTITUTION:The matrix of the plane type bistable elements is formed on the same substrate. Namely, the respective elements are separated laterally by anode area separation layers 19, but connect with the gate areas 14 and respective layers below them. Then the respective elements have their gate areas 14, anode areas 15, and cathode areas 13 separated longitudinal by gate area separating grooves 18. Thus, the elements are separated, so if light enters one element, all of the lateral elements turn on and other arrays in the lateral direction are still off. Consequently, the number of switches where the light signal passes does not increases even if the number of the elements of the matrix increases.</p> |
