摘要 PURPOSE: To obtain a smooth surface finish within a short cycle time by placing a composite sheet wherein the matrix material in the heated composite sheet having a desired shape is heated to temp. higher than melting temp. on a mold insert to arranged the same in a cooled mold to apply compression molding to the composite sheet. CONSTITUTION: Mold inserts 15, 17 holding a sheet 11 therebetween are subjected to conduction heating between plates 21, 23 to be heated to temp. higher than the temp. melting the matrix material in the composite sheet. The temp. of the sheet exceeds glass transition temp. when an amorphous resin is used and exceeds an m.p. when a crystalline resin is used. Mold inserts 15, 17 are formed of a material not bended against compression force at the high temp. melting the composite material to be capable of withstanding and have smooth surfaces for molding the composite material. As this material, there are a metal, ceramic, high temp. (heat-resistant) plastic and a plastic composite material. Next, the inserts holding the sheet therebetween is transferred to a cold press 27 and introduced into the gap between cold upper and lower molds to be compressed.
