An internal shoe-drum brake comprises a support plate 24 carrying a pair of arcuate shoes 11, 12 adapted to be actuated by cam means 40 disposed between two of the adjacent ends of the shoes, the other rounded ends 20 of the shoes being slidably and pivotably disposed in slots 48 provided on opposite sides of an anchor member 38. The anchor member is provided with a rectangular boss 42 riveted to the support plate 24 of the brake, the boss 42 being disposed generally in the direction of the shoe anchoring force. The cam means 40 is secured to one end of a shaft 50 having an enlarged diameter portion 52 limiting axial movement of the shaft in one direction through an opening in the support plate and a doubled-over sheetmetal actuating lever 56 is splined to the other end of the shaft 50 to limit axial movement of the shaft in the other direction. Two coil springs 28 bias the shoes laterally into engagement with ledges 22 constructed integrally on the backing plate. |
