PURPOSE:To enable recording in black and white to be performed at high speed by allowing a main scanning operation at higher speed than when recording is carried out in color, and alternately using monochromatic black and a mixture of black and three colors such as C, M, Y for recording. CONSTITUTION:A device is equipped with a jet head 4 with nozzles 41-43 for supplying different inks such as cyan C, magenta M, yellow Y and black BK which are arranged at a specified interval on the same line in a main scan direction. When recording is carried out in black and white, the main scan speed of the jet head 4 is, for example, set twice that when recording is performed in color. Then an odd-number line in the main scan direction is recorded in black BK ink color, while an even-number line is recorded in black mixed with other three colors such as C, M, Y. Consequently, compared to the conventional recording in black BK ink only, the recording speed of characters is increased by a factor of about two at the same interval between recording dots. In addition, two different kinds of black are distributed equally by recording in black BK and a mixture of black and other different colors alternately. Thus the deterioration of character quality due to a slight difference between two different black colors can be prevented. |
