The process and mould assembly used produce focussed transducers not possessing an acoustic lens and hence suitable for inspection by contact, avoiding all current problems with this type of inspection. It is based on use of fractured piezoelectric materials which improve the quality and maintain high values for coupling factors. Also a two-component mixed material is used for fitting the impedances, consisting of copper and epoxy resin.
