Cooling drum for stuff-crimping devices

It is known, in the case of stuff-crimping, to cool down the hot thread plug emerging from the stuffer box, before it is disentangled, first of all with the aid of a cooling drum whose surface exhibits wedge-shaped guide grooves with a perforated groove base for receiving the thread plugs. The drum interior is connected to a suction-extraction means via a lateral suction-extraction cross-section. It has been shown that, due to the suction extraction on one side, the cooling action decreases as the distance from the suction-extraction cross-section increases. The novel cooling drum is intended to change this. Provided in the interior of the cooling drum are air guides which, with the greatest possible radius of curvature in each case, are guided from the guide grooves to the suction-extraction cross-section. They have the same effective length and the same cross-sectional progression. The configuration of the air guides can take place by arranging correspondingly shaped rotationally symmetrical inserts in the drum. The novel cooling drum results in identical flow conditions, in the case of all guide grooves, and thus to uniform cooling of the thread plugs.
