A working illumination device which, fixed to the roof of the truck, allows the working illumination to be directed to the right spot when illumination is required at the sides of the truck. The working illumination device is a complete unit covered by a casing that can be installed on the truck by means of quick-couplings. The problem with working illumination has been that a wide driver's cab and flat parts obstruct lighting by means of fixed lamps installed on the roof. There is also a serious risk of the lighting being damaged. A device according to the invention replaces fixed lamps. The lamps 5 forming the device can be automatically shifted so far out to the sides of the truck by means of pneumatic cylinders 8 that the illumination is not obstructed. Automatic working movements of the cylinders have been achieved by means of an electro-pneumatic control valve 14 coupled in parallel with the lamps. The lamps are fixed on slide rails 12, which are moved by the cylinders. When the lighting is not in use, the lamps are protected in the casing. The device is coupled to the electrical and pneumatic systems of the truck by means of quick-couplings 11. The overall length of the device is determined by the width of the driver's cab. <IMAGE>
