In electric synchronous machines having a segmental rim rotor (3) the hub (4) of which is coupled on both sides of its central part (5) by securing means (11) to the flange (16, 17) of the hollow shaft (1, 2), the securing means (11) are considerably stressed in operation by the expansion of the segmental rim (9). A new design of the hub (4) should reduce such stresses. For this purpose, the central part (5) of the hub (4) is provided with axially extending tubular projections (13) which support the flange (16, 17) for receiving the securing means (11) to the hollow shaft (1, 2). The stresses caused by expansion forces are thus absorbed by deflexion of the tubular projections (13) and the securing means (11) are discharged. This synchronous machine with segmental rim rotor is particularly useful for hydroelectric generators with vertical hollow shafts.
