In the case of an acceleration and tilt angle sensor for safety systems in motor vehicles which is arranged on a part which is fixedly connected to the vehicle or the vehicle seat, the said sensor having a base body which is suspended in a pendulum-like fashion, a seismic weight which is mounted in the latter and an actuating device, which can be actuated by the seismic weight, for the actuation of safety systems, it is proposed that a device be provided which is actuated by the seismic weight and fixes the base body in its position and/or releases it from its position.
