PURPOSE:To detect a small flaw, by generating a transversal wave from a vertical probe to propagate the same through an object to be inspected and detecting the reflecting wave thereof. CONSTITUTION:When a transversal wave vertical probe 1 is applied to the end surface of a long object 4 to be inspected and pulsed high voltage is transmitted to the probe 1 from an ultrasonic flaw detector 3 through a high frequency cable 2, a transversal wave converting vibrator 5 is vibrated laterally. Since a damper 6 is provided, said lateral vibration is not transmitted to a case 8 and an ultrasonic wave (transversal wave) S of a transversal mode is generated. This traversal wave S is vertically propagated through the object 4 to be inspected through a front plate 7 and reflected when a flaw F is present in the object to be inspected. This reflected wave propagates through the object 4 to be inspected to reach the vibrator 5 and is converted to voltage to be received by the ultrasonic flaw detector 3. By this method, a small flaw can be detected. |
