PURPOSE:To reduce a voltage necessary for image formation to a desired voltage by developing a charge pattern with insulating electric charge grains, without an electric conductor on the back side of a dielectric substance. CONSTITUTION:A microelectrode 5 is brought into contact with the surface of a dielectric film 1, which has conductive and independent microparts 4 exposed on its surface, and the electric conductor 6 is placed on the back side of the dielectric film 1 in the prescribed gap; the surface of the dielectric film 1 is scanned while a voltage is impressed in the form of a pulse according to the image which is to be formed; and electric charges are applied to the microparts 4, whereupon the charge pattern is formed. Without the electric conductor on the back side of the dielectric substance, the charge pattern is developed with the insulating electric charge grains. Since only a developing sleeve suffices for the electrode used in development, the lines of electric force between the developing sleeve and dielectric film are concentrated and developing capacity is improved even with a low potential in the charge pattern; thus, writing voltage can be considerably lowered. |
