Waste water sludge, especially liquid manure from farms keeping productive livestock, in particular presents problems owing to excessive pollution with nitrogen and phosphate of the agriculturally utilised surfaces and nitrate pollution of the groundwater, the high specific transport costs of unpurified liquid manure and also owing to an altogether too high accumulation, i.e. non-utilisable amounts. These problems are solved using the present invention in that in a first step the liquid manure is conditioned and homogenised, a required C:N ratio being set with respect to later utilisation, and in a second step a solid/liquid separation of the conditioned and homogenised liquid manure into at least two fractions is carried out. Advantageously, the liquid extract is used as liquid fertiliser or, after electrolytic removal of phosphorus, fed to a sewage works. The solid fraction is composted and further processed to give a marketable product, so-called agricultural compost, the otherwise non-utilisable solids being used outside agriculture, for example in special crop cultivation, viticulture, in horticulture and decorative plant culture, in the household etc. and as a natural medicine.

|
