The invention concerns a safety device for a tool for cutting up garden refuse, such as dead shrubs, bushes etc.. The tool consists of an angle section support (1) of which the end edge of the horizontal flange (3) forms the fixed blade. The moving blade (9) is bolted to the actuating lever (8) which is pivoted to the angle section (1). The outer bolt which secures the blade (9) is hollow and forms a guide for a sliding pin which can engage a socket (43) attached to the edge of the flange (3) of the angle section. The blade (9) can thus be prevented from moving when the tool is being transported.: In this fixed position the blade (9) is protected by a guard plate (30). USE - Disposal of garden refuse.
