PURPOSE:To obtain the subject composition, consisting of a low polymer of a specific alkyl vinyl ether-maleic acid derivative, capable of exhibiting remarkable dispersing effects even in a low concentration and excellent in stability. CONSTITUTION:The objective dispersing agent consisting of a low polymer of an alkyl vinyl ether-maleic acid derivative expressed by the formula [R is 4-8C (un)saturated alkyl; X and Y are alkaline metal, ammonium ion, organic ammonium ion or 2-4C alkyl; n is 3-60]. Furthermore, the above-mentioned polymer is preferably obtained by, e.g., rapidly advancing polymerization reaction of a maleic acid derivative with an alkyl vinyl ether without using a chain transfer agent and solvent according to a bulk polymerization method. |
