The training aid comprises at least one source (58) of ultra-sonic radiation and a sensor (10) of the emitted radiation which may mimic the audible and visual output signals of a geiger-counter. Preferably the sensor employs an amplifier (19) with a logarithmic response. The sensor may include a proximity sensing signal modifier (33) and a generator (32) of a background radiation level signal. Preferably the or each source is a piezo-electric transducer (58). Multi-transducer omni-directional sources are disclosed, with independently controllable (61-64) transducers to mimic wind-borne radiation or radiation which commences (67) upon defective manipulation of a container of radiactive material. Multiplexing computer-controlled arrangements (Figs. 8, 9) can be provided in order to mimic required patterns of radiation emission such as upon a specified fracture of a radioactive flask. Sensed levels can be integrated to yield received ''dosages'' of ultrasonic radiation. |
