STEERABLE WHEEL AXLE FOR A MOTOR VEHICLE

A steerable wheel axle for a motor vehicle comprises a hydrostatic or servo-assisted steering gear (6) arranged inside a rigid axle body. Despite the incorporation of the steering system in the axle body, the dimensions and weight of the axle body are almost unchanged, and the steering system is protected from damage. To this end, the steering cylinder (17) is arranged coaxially with the longitudinal median axis of the axle body (1) and is connected to and driven by a swivelling lever (7) which projects radially from the axle body (1) and is linked to steering tie rods (5).
