Washing air with water for industrial air conditioning. Liquid particles are removed from a high-velocity gas stream by impinging it on wall members in a passage. At least one of the members has a first plane surface which deflects the stream and on which the particles form a liquid stream, a 2nd plane surface downstream of the 1st and in the same plane, a vertical groove defined by the trailing and leading edges of the 1st and 2nd surfaces respectively. A portion of the gas enters the groove, which includes liquid deflecting means to receive liquid from the trailing edge, and gas deflecting means extending 180 degrees from the leading edge of the 2nd surface and terminating at the end of the liquid deflector remote from the trailing edge. The gas and liquid directions in the groove are in confronting arrangement so that their flow components are nullified and the liquid can flow vertically in the groove. |
