The invention relates to an electrode for dielectrically heating thermoplastics. The electrode material or the conducting layer has in this case, compared to normal metal conductors, a relatively high resistance. As a result, the electrode heats itself. In this way, the temperature gradient between workpiece and electrode is reduced and in consequence the heat flow (heat dissipation) in this direction. Welding or embossing thus improves in quality and in particular embossing is possible without additional insulating material.
