PURPOSE:To enhance sensitivity and to reduce residual potential and to obtain durability without deteriorating these characteristics even at the time of repeated uses by forming a photosensitive layer containing a specified squarium compound on a conductive substrate. CONSTITUTION:The photosensitive layer contains one of the squarium compounds represented by formula I in which each of R<0>, R<1> and R<2> is H, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, hydroxy, or the like; R<3> is optionally substituted alkyl; and X is a carbon atom group necessary to form an at least total 5-membered ring containing at least one hetero atom except N, thus permitting the obtained electrophotographic sensitive body to be superior in electrophotographic characteristics, such as sensitivity, residual potential resistance, and potential stability, small in deterioration due to fatigue at the time of repeated uses, and stable against heat and light. |
