The novel compounds of the general formula in which R 1 and R 2 each may be H, alkyl or a radical having the formula are prepared by reacting dicyandiamide with a #-amino-propionitrile of the general formula R 1 R 2 N-CH 2 CH 2 CN in the presence of an organic solvent and, as catalyst, an alkali metal hydroxide or an alkali metal alcoholate. The groups R 1 and R 2 are preferably both H, methyl or ethyl groups or R 1 is H and R 2 is a radical of Formula (2). In Example 1, 2-(#-dimethylamino . ethyl) - 4,6 - diamino - 1,3,5 - triazine is prepared. This is converted to 2-vinyl-4,6-diamino-1,3,5-triazine by methylation and Hofmann degradation in Example 2. |
