A method of producing microcapsules comprising the steps of: mixing (i) an aqueous dispersion containing a capsule having an wall membrane containing polyvinyl alcohol and an aqueous solution containing 8% to 50% by weight of an electrolyte or electrolytes and (ii) an aldehyde or aldehydes having a solubility in water at 20 DEG C of not more than 10%; and allowing the mixture to react under an acidic condition.
