PURPOSE:To make display extremely easy to grasp by superimposing a characters for showing a reception channel and a character for showing a reception broadcasting mode on a picture on a picture display element as pictures. CONSTITUTION:A display switching circuit 25 selects a character to be displayed in a display period on the basis of outputs F and H of timers 26 and 27 and an output I from a recall switch 34. Namely, whether the channel character is displayed on the screen of a cathode-ray tube 10 all the time or only for a specific time is determined. When a channel switched by the output F of the timer 37 for a specific time is in stereophonic broadcast reception mode during channel switching, a stereophonic display switching circuit 38 is put in operation through an AND gate 35 and when in bilingual broadcast reception mode, a bilingual broadcast display switching circuit 39 is put in operation through an AND gate 36. At the same time, a display switching circuit 33 is put in operation. The readout timing of a readout timing pulse generating circuit 33 for a character generator 23 and the kind of a character to be read are changed to control the character generator 23. The display signal P of a character generated by this character generator 23 is applied to the video output circuit 7 of a television receiver 1 through a color switching circuit 30 to display the character on the screen of the cathode ray tube 10. |
