PURPOSE:To provide the recording medium which has a long life, has excellent environmental resistance and good sensitivity and allows high-density recording by forming a recording film on a substrate by reactive sputtering of both targets of a metal and carbon in an atmosphere contg. a gaseous mixture composed of hydrocarbon and Ar. CONSTITUTION:The metal target 41 and the carbon target 42 are provided in a vacuum vessel 1 and the recording film is formed on the substrate 6 by the reactive sputtering of the two targets in the atmosphere contg. the gaseous mixture composed of the hydrocarbon and Ar in the process for producing the information recording medium having the recording film which executes recording and reproducing of information by irradiation of a laser beam. As a result, the recording film is made into the structure dispersed with the fine metallic particles in the org. component and fine particle C matrix. The information recording medium which has the environmental resistance and the long life and has the excellent recording and reproducing characteristics is thereby obtd. |
