<p>Centrifugal appts. is intended for the sepn. of a liq. into various phases and more esp. for the purificn. of milk by separating it from germs or bacteria. The density of the latter is 1.07-1.13 while the density of milk and casein is 1.03-1.065, their sepn. therefore, requires appts. giving a very high centrifugal field. In the new appts. a bowl with a conical wall, with a apex angle of 6-10 degrees, is used, its internal surface is highly polished, pref. by electrolytic polishing, to facilitate the evacuation of sediments by inhibiting their adhesion to this surface. The bowl, forged from high tensile steel, is brought up to the operational speed of 16000 rpm and the milk is injected at the base at a low pressure. Under the effect of the centrifugal field and the polished surface, the heavy sediment slides up the bowl towards the evacuation nozzles while the purified milk is evacuated through the centre by another outlet. Appts. is simple, robust and can easily be cleaned, the sediment is continuously evacuated.</p> |
