PURPOSE:To obtain a satisfactory image pickup signal at a low cost by supplying the clock of a frequency, which reads a picture element number in a standard horizontal direction during a standard horizontal period, to the horizontal output register part of a CCD image pickup element, for which the picture element number in the horizontal direction is reduced, and controlling the supplying timing of this clock. CONSTITUTION:The picture element number in the horizontal direction of a CCD image pickup element 1 is made smaller than the standard picture element number. The clock of the frequency, which reads the picture element number in the standard horizontal direction during one standard horizontal period, is supplied to a horizontal output register part 5 of the CCD image pickup element 1 and the image pickup signal is obtained. Accordingly, the time base of the obtained image pickup signal is not different from the standard time base. Further, since the timing of the clock, which is supplied to the horizontal output register part 5, is controlled, the output timing of the image pickup signal can be changed. Thus, a solid-state image pickup device can be constituted at a low cost and the satisfactory image pickup signal can be obtained. |
