<p>1360856 Two-part couplings BUNKER RAMO CORP 21 June 1971 [22 June 1970 20 Nov 1970] 29026/71 Heading H2E An electrical connector, e.g. for receiving the edge of a printed circuit board 20 comprises an insulating body 24 with an opening 26 for the board extending rearwardly from its front end and intersected by a slot 25 extending forwardly from the rear end, a contact element 28 of electrically-conductive material in the slot and comprising a base 30, fixed in the body, and a U- shaped portion consisting of arms 35, 38 joined by a resilient bridge 45. The arms carry respective positioning and contact portions 31, 32, and portion 31 is disposed closer to the centre line of opening 26 than portion 32. The U-shaped portion is connected to the base 30 by a resilient blade 34 extending alongside and substantially parallel to arm 35 with the end of the blade connected to the U-shaped portion rigid with the positioning portion. In a modification, the bridge is straight and the blade lies parallel therewith and is rigid with the rear end of the arm carrying the positioning portion. In another embodiment, the contact element is arranged to take up either of two possible positions within the body. When a contact, such as a printed circuit board, is inserted it engages the positioning portion to tilt the element 28 as a whole and thus bring contact portion 32 into positive electrical contact with the board.</p> |
