PURPOSE:To obtain the title binder giving a high quality ceramic sintered body having a small void volume and high dimensional stability by using the silicate of a guanidine compd. CONSTITUTION:A guanidine compd. represented by the formula [where each of R<1>-R<4> is H, (cyclo)alkyl, (alkyl)aryl or hydroxyalkyl and R<1> may be NH2] is mixed with silicon oxide such as colloidal silica or a precursor capable of forming silicon oxide, e.g., silane, SiCl4 or ethyl silicate in 10:1-1:10 molar ratio and the mixture is stirred at 20-200 deg.C for several min - several hr to obtain the silicate of the guanidine compd. This silicate is used as the title binder optionally in the form of a soln. prepd. by dissolution in water or various solvents. Si3N4 or SiC is mixed with the binder and a sintering assistant such as Y2O3 or Al2O3 and sintered by heating to obtain a ceramic sintered body. |
