<p>A device capable of detecting individual particles of less than 10 microns in diameter in a fluid flowing through the device, includes a body (1) having a passageway (2) through which, in use, the fluid flows, a light source (13) for directing a beam of light into the passageway (2) and a light detector (15) for detecting scattered light from a small portion only of the cross-sectional area of the passageway (2). The arrangement is such that light from the light source (13) is unable to pass directly to the light detector (15). The device is capable of detecting very low concentrations of particles in fluids flowing through it at a high flow-rate.</p> |
