Pump arrangement for flash lamp-pumped laser systems

By using a reflecting cone along whose axis of symmetry the flash lamp is arranged, all the flash lamp radiation can be focussed onto a small area. By using total reflection along the outer surface of the cone and injection of the radiation in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the laser media, this arrangement results in a transfer efficiency of almost 100% and the capability to produce any desired gain profiles.
